GILDA
RADNOR

| This late-night T.V. comedy show was a visual-expierience. (In other words, you had to tune-in), to watch these not-ready-for-primetime-players acting out and improvising some crazily-funny characters. This tape is from 1976, after 1 full year, before Chevy Chase left. (He should have stayed. Any actor/comedian on a successful T.V. show needs a full 2 seasons(years) before they can have any clout in becoming a movie-success). Not all of these skits worked, though, in just audio(record or tape). | |||||||||
| There are 2 Weekend Update episodes, but the pictures that often made it funny are missing. Since they were pretending to be news anchors, some of it works with just the voices, (like radio in the 1930's), but a careful selection/ distinction needed to be made. There's a similar problem with Gilda Radnor's Live From New York, (a great solo-performance nonetheless), from 1979. By then, Ackroyd & Belushi had left, (to become successful movie-stars), and the show's creativity was being stretched by the remaining 4, with the help of some newer talent. | |||||||||

Still,
this
is
first-class
audio/comedy
for
people
who
remember,
that
after
the
final
season
with
the
originals,
(sometime
in
80,
'81),
the
succeeding-casts
were
continually
second-rate.
